On the corner of 77th and Greenfield is a small little brick building home to Schroeder Used Books & Music. The founding owner, Bill Schroeder, initially had two downtown bookstores before opening the location here in West Allis. Bill’s fifth wife, Alma Maras, runs the operations of the Greenfield Avenue location. Bill Schroeder was born on March 12, 1929, and graduated from North Division High School in 1946. Schroeder attended Marquette University before studying ornithology at Utah State. Schroeder took a year off and lived in Alaska working as a game warden. His field supervisor was murdered by poachers, and that is when Bill returned to Wisconsin. Unfortunately, Bill Schroeder passed away at the cardiac intensive care unit apart of Froedtert Hospital in April of 2018. Bill Schroeder is remembered by his wife, Alma, and his daughter, Meg.
